BALTIMORE’S INFAMOUS CITY JAIL IS OUR LATEST RECLAMATION

  • By the time we learned of this notorious prison’s demolition, it’s dark, imposing stones were already being pulverized into dust. Fortunately, we were able to coordinate logistics fast enough to salvage what remained of a building who counted Edgar Allen Poe and Al Capone among its inhabitants.
  • Built in 1801, it was reconstructed during the Civil War with a mix of locally quarried granite and gneiss.  These stones are notable for their darker tones, as compared most of the granite we find in our New England salvages.
  • In addition to many dimensional blocks perfect for stacked walls and firepits, this lot includes interesting architectural pieces such as keystones and oversized sills.
Dimensions Approx. 3-8’L x 15-20″W x 12-18”T
Colors  Mid to dark greys, black traces
Texture Weather-worn, rustic faces
